On July 22, the House Appropriations Committee passed HR 4754, the fiscal year 2026 Interior and Environment Appropriations Act. The bill contains many provisions detrimental to the environment, but for this action we are focusing on two sections:
Section 453 has language which would block the EPA from changing any pesticide labels without an updated health or cancer assessment. However, such assessments take 4-12 years and are usually conducted by the pesticide manufacturer itself. The effect of this section would be to shield pesticide manufacturers from liability for any health effects caused by their products.
Section 507 would prohibit the EPA from implementing or enforcing the “Draft Sewage Sludge Risk Assessment for PFOA and PFOS.” Sewage sludge containing these “forever chemicals” is currently used as fertilizer on agricultural lands which can contaminate produce, meat and dairy.
What can you do?
Please contact your US House Representative and ask that he or she vote against HR 4754 and support any amendments that would remove sections 453 and 507.
