Don’t buy food from strangers! Know Your Farmers!
You’ve heard it before, the importance of knowing who grows your food – and now it’s even more important than ever. In addition to adapting to new and unexpected weather patterns as well as pests and diseases, Your Farmers are now also dealing with new rules, regulations and other economic challenges as a result of this pandemic. Over the years, BCFA has offered many ways for you and your community to better “Know Your Farmers,” through the Wrightstown and Doylestown Farmers Markets, our Buy Fresh Buy Local e-guide, our website, newsletters, and farm tours. And with your help, BCFA has also provided financial support directly to farmers. In 2019, we awarded Small Farm Grants (SFGs) to three local farmers. And recently, we continued this effort with a SFG to a multi-generational family-owned and operated Pennsylvania Maple Syrup grower and producer, whose primary market is Bucks County.
BCFA plans to continue to provide these valuable services and activities to fulfill our mission of building and supporting a sustainable LOCAL food system here in Bucks County. And we need your help more than ever this year. Our biggest annual fundraiser (our Foodshed 5K) has been cancelled for 2020 due to Covid-19. We are well aware that everyone has been hit by the pandemic in some way. But if you are able to give, please DONATE NOW. It will help keep our local economy running and resilient. And ultimately, bounce back stronger than ever before!
