Roots to River Farm writes:
We received a grant from the BCFA in the fall of 2021. With that money we were able to subsidize the purchase of a new caterpillar tunnel. We built the tunnel in the spring of 2022 and we were able to grow grafted tomato plants for the first time. This allowed our members to receive a larger quantity of high quality heirloom tomatoes in their shares. In September, we planted the tunnel with winter greens and have been harvesting from those plantings for our Winter CSA from December up until this week. The tunnel will help us protect crops as we experience more challenging growing conditions due to climate change and help us extend our season to keep our farm viable as a year round producer of local food. We are grateful to the BCFA and its members for the grant to help us purchase this valuable tool.
