Bucks County Foodshed Alliance (BCFA) began offering Small Farm Grants to farmers in the Bucks County region in 2019. The grant aims to provide funds to local farmers to make capital and other improvements supporting the farms’ long term health. It prioritizes farms that employ sustainable agricultural practices. BCFA is pleased to have awarded a grant to NK Cattle Company located in Ottsville.
About NK Cattle Company:
NK Cattle Company is a new farm to the Bucks County area. They raise cattle utilizing rotational pasture-based practices. Their cattle are backgrounded high-quality steers and heifers for breeding.
About their Grant:
NK Cattle Company is using their grant for site preparation and inside footing of a new barn to shelter their breeding herd and winter hay. Farmer Kara Riccioni writes:
“We are thankful for the support of Bucks County Foodshed Alliance as we work to bring this farm back into a productive operation. As we finish outfitting our pole barn for our cow-calf operation, the grant will help us in laying a foundation for our herd. The barn and feed area are essential for healthy calves and to reduce the potential nutrient runoff. We are excited to be part of this community and be a resource for other producers and consumers in the area.”
