One of BCFA’s core directives is to support the local farmers who serve Bucks County. We do this in a variety of ways, including awarding small farm grants which can be used for a multitude of purposes including small capital improvements, farm promotions, and even registration for conferences (like PASA). We prioritize farms that use or are wanting to transition to sustainable agricultural practices who serve Bucks County. Since 2019, we have awarded five impactful grants.
This year, we have proudly awarded a $2,000 grant to First Fruits Farm in Pipersville. They are using the grant to construct a mobile chicken coop. The feathery residents are officially in their new coop just in time for the cold, winter nights. The coop is weatherized and has heat lamps.
Using regenerative and organic farm techniques, First Fruits Farm grows mixed produce, cut flowers, and has both duck and chicken eggs. They also raise pasture-raised chicken, forest-grazed pork, and grass-fed lamb. They sell at the Plumsteadville Grange Farm Market and you can contact them to purchase eggs, honey, and meat year round.
Are you a farmer looking for funds? Check out our Small Farm Grant page for details, we’d love to work with you. There is no deadline to apply.Â
