Small Farm Grant Awarded to Hollow House Farms

Jul 6, 2023 | BCFA News, Support for Local Farmers | 0 comments

One of BCFA’s missions is to support local farmers who serve Bucks County. We do this in a variety of ways, including awarding small farm grants which can be used for a multitude of purposes including small capital improvements, farm promotions, and even registration for conferences (like PASA). We prioritize farms serving Bucks County that use or are wanting to transition to sustainable agricultural practices. Since 2019, we have awarded EIGHT impactful grants to help local farmers thrive.

This year, we are proud to share that we have awarded a grant to Hollow House Farms to help install a drip line irrigation system.

Farmer Lisa Braud explains the project:

Thanks to the generous support of the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, our farm, Hollow House Farms, successfully implemented a drip line irrigation system that has positively impacted our diverse range of crops, including vegetables, flowers, and herbs. The grant funding provided by the alliance enabled us to procure high-quality materials, such as PVC pipes, hoses, emitters, fittings, and connectors, essential for the efficient delivery of water directly to the root zones of our crops.

The drip line technology has significantly improved our irrigation practices, resulting in enhanced crop health, reduced weed growth, and increased yield. With targeted water delivery, we have minimized water waste through evaporation and runoff, optimizing the use of this valuable resource. The installation of the drip line has not only improved the efficiency of our farm but has also contributed to its overall sustainability.

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance plays a vital role in supporting local farmers by providing grants for projects like ours. Their commitment to sustainable agriculture and the local food system is evident through their financial assistance and dedication to fostering resilience within the farming community. The alliance’s support empowers farmers to implement innovative and resource-efficient practices, adapt to changing environmental conditions, and contribute to the economic viability of their operations.

We are sincerely grateful for the support of the Bucks County Foodshed Alliance, as it has served as a catalyst for the growth and success of our farm. Through their collaboration, we have been able to enhance our irrigation infrastructure, optimize water usage, and contribute to a sustainable local food system. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the alliance and collectively working towards a thriving and resilient agricultural landscape in Bucks County.

Using regenerative and organic farm techniques, Hollow House Farms grows mixed produce, cut flowers, chicken and duck eggs, honey, and aquaponic lettuce. They sell at the Wrightstown Farmers Market and you can contact them to purchase from their farm stand.
